Introduction
Whuzza! is the personal web site of yet another twenty-something, bleary-eyed business traveler. He designs and teaches technical courses for a multinational computer firm. Occassionally, he does cameos at a few
conferences as well.
He mainly commutes to the United States from his hometown of Toronto, Canada. However, his work has taken him as far as Asia, Europe and South America. Given how often he travels, you are more likely to bump into him at
Pearson International than on the streets of Toronto.
That's not to say that he's weary of traveling, at least not yet. He has reached the waters of both the East (Newport, Rhode Island) and West (Half Moon Bay, California) coasts in the span of a week. He has slipped into a South American country using two passports and a signed paper from an embassy director. He also has a number of other stories that probably should not be posted on the web, to protect the identities and reputations of certain people. The fact that he wants to keep his job plays a minor but important role as well.
The rest of the stories, he'd like to share them with you.
Besides work?
Good question. Whoever believes that being a business traveler is a glamorous lifestyle should try the position for a few months. Most companies expect their employees to travel off hours or on weekends to maximize
billable time, when monies flow into the company's coffers. This routine makes it incredibly convenient for work to encroach on the rest of one's life. It's basically an
open bar
for workaholics.
Having to fly to anywhere in the world on a few days notice also makes it hard to commit to a class at the community college or volunteer at the local school.
Whuzza's still tinkering with his work/life balance thing. He enjoys a warm mug of coffee, a cold pilsner glass of beer, a thoughtful discussion, the company of friends, an evening of live music, a well-worn novel and a night at the movies.
He claims to be tired of technology, but he's still mesmorized by
shiny things. Money can't buy you happiness, but you can rent it for a while.
Colophon
This site was painstakingly teased together with the
Windows Notepad. As a programmer, Whuzza never felt comfortable working with fancy editors. Sample styles and layouts from
glish.com provided a framework for this site. Colors were chosen randomly. If he wanted to sound artistic and refined, he would state that the inspiration for the site came from a label of an exquisite bottle of Pinot Noir. Alas, Whuzza has no idea what Pinot Noir is.
